Assuming Apple is cutting identical profit margins on the ipod nano 2GB and 4GB, that means the marginal cost to apple to include 2GB of flash memory is $50.
More likely, Apple cuts a slightly larger profit margin on the 4GB model, which means 2GB of flash memory costs them below $50.
Maybe I'm just a business nerd, but was anyone else as surprised by this as me?

My guess is that Apple knows people are used to the mini pricing structure and they worked to maintain it. It's doubtful to me that Apple would choose to lose money, so I'm guessing the 2 GB model is overpriced and that the 4 GB is at a comfortable profit margin.
Hey so these Nano's use flashmemory? And if so can you take it out easily? thanks in advance

This made me realize one of the major reasons why Apple probably named this the iPod nano instead of the iPod mini (3rd gen). People would realize that this device costs a lot more than the previous iPod mini per GB. The 2nd Gen ipod mini's were $199 for 4 GB and $249 for 6 GB. The only major added functionality this has is the color screen + photo viewing, and the storage size actually decreased per price to 2 GB for $199 and 4 GB for $249. This actually makes me question whether this device will be successful or not due to the pricing. You can get a 20 GB iPod for $299.
