First time posting here. :D

So I've had my iPod Shuffle for a few months now... but recently I had to swap out some hardware (RAM, motherboard, etc) and reformat my machine (which is now running Windows 2000 Pro). Before I ran XP Pro, but for whatever reason I couldn't get XP to load on my machine after my overhaul... but that's besides the point.

I am running a USB 1.0 hub and and Game Theatre XP 7.1 box with two USB 1.0 ports. Whenever I try to put music on my iPod or take music off... my machine restarts regardless of what port I put it in. I can open iTunes fine... but once I send any kind of command to the iPod... the machine reboots. There have been very few times where I can successfully do updates with no problems. It's really starting to become annoying because A) my system restarts every time and B) I've been listening to the same music on the bus to and from work every day for a month.

Another thing that's odd is when I plug in my iPod to recharge, it will blink maybe 5 times and stop. If I restart my machine... sometimes the blinking with stay at a steady pace until recharged.

I have the most updated version of iTunes, updated drivers for my USB hub and Game Theatre (which have worked in the past for me), and all that jazz.

I'm at a loss. Can anyone explain this?

Indeed I do. It's Service Pack 4 to be exact. I'm almost definite that I have everything on here as up to date as possible.

is your usb hub powered?? If it's not, that could be the reason why your computer restarts is because there's not enough power for the other devices hooked up.

I'm not sure what you mean by powered... but I can explain my setup to see if that helps answer your question.

I have a PCI card with maybe 4 or 5 USB 1.0 slots on it in the back of my machine. I also have the Game Theatre XP... but there's no AC power that goes to it. The GTXP consists of a rack that hooks into a PCI card via this monstrous cable. On that cable is another wire with a male USB that I hook in to the USB slot on my mother board.

I just tried hooking my iPod Shuffle in the motherboard USB ports and the same thing happens. Tonight when I was messing with it... my machine would restart when I would plug the iPod in to any of my USB slots. Looking over at it now the charge lights aren't blinking on it.

I had my iPod plugged in the other day because the battery was low and it actually charged (but not completely full). It's weird because some time I can plug it in and it charges (though still won't let me put music on it) and other days it restarts when just plugging the damned thing in.

I'm really getting frustrated with it. I don't know if it's my machine or my iPod. I really value my iPod, but I'm really sick of the music on it because I haven't been able to change it for months now. :(

By the way, I've tried transfering data to and from a thumb-drive that I have and there's no problem with that... or any other USB device for that matter.

I noticed that there's an iPod update, but I can't even get that to work. The times I do get my iPod to insert into the USB without restarting it will reboot once I try that update or still try to transfer music.
