Can anyone guide me? I would like to get some new earphones for my iPod, preferably ones that are not colored white (the mugging factor and the such), but I also want them to be comfortable and have a fairly good sound quality.
I've heard Etymotic has good earphones, but from what I see at their site, theirs are all pretty much white colored ones so that they match the iPod.

Check out www.headphone.com . They have charts, reviews, comparisons - the works. I got some cheap headphones from them and also some nice quality ones... I like them.

You may consider the Sharp HP-MD33! Awesome canal phones in silver & black! Very comfortable, form a nice seal for very good isolatio. Incredible all around sound, nice bass clean mids and nice highs!
If you're looking for something better! Audio-Technica ATH-CM7 will be your way to go. These phones are made by aluminum and it got silver & black finish.

Etymotic ER 4P's are phenomenal and have black cords that are twisted in a manner to prevent tangling which makes them easy to manage. I highly recommend them. The Etymotic 6i's are the ones I started with and are white and sound quite good as well.

The ER 4's are nice, but too expensive for my taste (nearly as much as I spent on my iPod). That being said, I haven't totally ruled them out.

Yes, you're right...they are fairly expensive. I see it this way-if they allow me to maximize the potential of the iPod, they're worth it. The separation of sound, the clarity, the comfortable fit, the incredible detail I hear with them makes them worth it to me. I must admit at first I did feel the same as you do. I tried the ER 6i's and they were excellent. The ER4's are even better.
