OK, I have a 30gb colour iPod with a cracked screen. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, what generation is my iPod? and also, if I get a replacement NON-COLOUR lcd screen, will it still work in my iPod? i dont really care if it's colour or not. And finally, how difficult is the screen to replace? Is there a guide as to how to do it? thanks.

If it is a 30 gigabyte color, it should be one of the photos, which is now the regular iPod (even though the 30 gig is discontinued). It should be under warrenty, so apple should be able to do it, or just give you a replacement. I think it's covered...

It is still under warranty, but I took it to an Apple center and asked if Apple would fix it but I was told they wouldn't, so I'll have to repair it myself. I'm willing to give it a go, but I need to know if a black and white screen will be compatible with mine. btw, it is indeed a colour photo, sorry forgot to mention that.

Well, I don't know alot about the subject, but I'm pretty sure it would need to be a color screen, if it's an iPod photo, because the graphics for the photo are different, and the new iPods (including iPod photo) recognise and store album art, etc... in their harddrives, and I'd assuem, it would really be messed up by putting a black and white screen in, so my vote, is that you need a color screen. Good luck though man.
