Hi I am considering buying the Future Sonics EM3. 95% of my music is at 128 aac. The other 5% is maybe at 160 or so. I currently own sony mdrex51s and i think that the sound is fairly good although i think it can be clearer.

I was wondering how the future sonics em3s sound at 128 aac. I have no desire to re rip my music at a higher bitrate. I used to own Shure e3cs and wasnt as blown away with them as i thought, although the isolation with the foamies was so great i couldnt hear anything besides the music, but after an hour or so in my ear they became very painful. i am no audiophile. i like how the em3s are the same in ear style as the ex51s. i was wondering if i would be getting a noticeable upgrade in quality for non-audiophile ears with music at 128aac? i was wondering how the bass compares to the ex51s?

i owned the e3cs for a few months and realized i was no audiophile and hated the around the ear setup and poor comfort. i sold them on ebay.

btw i might be able to get the em3s used for $65.

thanks for potential contibutions

Try www.head-fi.org and post there if no one answer your question here. I've never tried future soinics as they are not as popular/ easy to get as the other brands. I think head-fi has more headphone members that will able to help you out.

I'd say they're much easier to get than any custom IEM.

I have a pair of the IM3s and I'd say they're great if you're after a bass heavy IEM. On the other hand I don't think they would be any better in the comfort department than the E3c, I could never keep them in my ears for more than an hour or so before I needed a break. I think they would be a good match for 128 files.

The FutureSonics are especially great for rock music, atleast according to members on Head-Fi. From what I've read they're pretty much the Grado's of the IEM world. The only beef I have with them are the non reusable foam plugs, which are the ONLY tips avaliable from FutureSonics for them, besides the custom molds.

are the foam plugs like the foamies for the shure e3s. what do u mean non reusable, do you mean they only work once, or they die after a week or a month?

You'll get about a month of use before they stop expanding all the way. Depending on your ears the ER4 triflanges might work for you. My wife uses the EM3s now and she loves the ety triflanges with them.
