Hi. I already own a pair of Sony MDR v6's. But, since there my first pair of hi-quality headphones I never take it out of the house in fear of damaging them. I'm thinking of buying another pair of full sized headphones for my ipod under $30 (so I won't feel bad if I lose them or break them). I can't decide between the Sennheiser HD201s and the Sennheiser HD202s.
At first I was going to go with the 202s because of the frequency range, but then I realized that frequency range sometimes has nothing to do with the sound quality of the headphone.
Which one do I buy?

Actually I disagree. I listen to classical, rock, pop, and metal. I'm not a bass head, but I think the 202s are PERFECT for rock, pop, and metal.

Unless you listen to Jazz, Classical, and Vocals dominantly... I would suggest the 202s, as they're not over-bassy in my opinion.

Either way, they're both a good bet. I highly recommend both.

The Sennheiser 201's has the best sound-to-price ratio. It's very popular amongst the Head-Fi forums. You actually might even find that they're better sounding that the V6's. The Sony V6 aren't really considered great sounding, but it's adequate for most people who use them for portable usage and don't really care for sound quality. If you want great sound quality for home usage, you should invest in a pair of open aire headphones.

A great place to buy headphones would be HeadRoom (http://www.headphone.com/). They often sell lower than many local retailers.

Nice to find this post... I HAD the SAME doubt.

I went to www.headphones.com and realise that the 201 were better than the 202.. (I mean, they look like covering better the ear).

I have buy it ... I'll write about when I receive my new HD202 :D

Greetings.!!!

202 are ugly!! :)

I bought a pair of HD202's a week ago - I'm loving it! They isolate sound really well... I use them on the train. Listening to electronic music I find them great... nice and bassy, without being overly so. And the cord takeup thingy is useful. I am very glad I didn't shell out twice the price for the 212 Pros - though they look better. 201s are huge... I wouldn't want to be seen in public with them on.

the 202 will clip on your head really tight coz theyre closed circumaurals. they do sound great but just not comfortable.

I have the 201 and they are very well balanced. Very good for its price. The design is nice too!
