This is my short review, pardon for poor English :)

I use ipod photo for 9 month, and replace for 5 pair of earphone-headphone

apple > sony MDR EX71 > shure E2C > shure E3C >

grado SR80 > Sennheiser MX 500

apple : very low quality, no high frequency, boom bass, mid not clear

Sony : Boom Bass , mid to high normal,

E2C : less Bass, mid normal, hight not clear, not comfort when fit

E3C : less Bass, good mid, not clear at 12000-20000 Hz, more expensive

Senn MX500 : very very best earphone, upper bass is good, low bass is normal, mid-mid high very clear, not hurt, and high frequency is excellent, it have much of detail, cheaper than every earbud, i swear !!!!! at first, i seem it to worsen, not to convinced
but when i test it, hear it , serious with it, it is very very best earphone......................

next week I will sell every earphone-headphone..............unless MX 500

I have them since my old SOny earbuds died... 1year and 5months ago.

They are really great.... it sounds very good.

The only problem is.... mine are not the WHITE MX 500 :( jajaj.

I have the MX400, which I understand is the same as the 500 without the inline volume control. They're not as good as the MX4's used to be; if I was looking for something new I'd try to get my hands on the MX550, which has specs more similar to the MX4.

That being said, in comparison to several earbuds & headphones, I'd rate the MX400/500 as "good", not "great". A lot of people have been disappointed with the EX-71s because of all the raving about them here - they too are "good", not "great". There are certainly better-sounding (and more expensive) alternatives. The MX series in general are lacking in bass, which is a problem given most iPod's poor bass performance.

MX500 with Radioshack replacement foamies = Better bass and overall sound/fit.
