Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Recently, I am doing a little research about how to categorize earphones, but I got stunk.
Just curious about the naming of "Fontopia", "CanalPhones", "Audiophiles", "Earbuds"...etc
If anyone can give me some suggestions about the best way to name the following earphones....
I would try to defind those earphones into several categories....
===Fontopia===
Sony MDR-EX71SL
Sony MDR-EX81SL
Audio-Technica ATH-CK5
Panasonic RP-HJE70
Victor JVC HP-FX55
Pioneer SE-CL20
===CanalPhones or Audiophiles===
Shure E2C
Shure E3C
Etymotic ER-6i
===Earbuds===
AKG Acoustics K12P
Audio-Technica ATH-CM3
Audio-Technica ATH-CM7ti
Am I correct? I appreciate for any suggestions and your advice...:)

"Fontopia" is a Sony title used to describe their high end earbuds and canalphones. Everything else besides the Sony's in your "Fontopia" category should be under canalphones; the Sony's should, however, be in the canalphones list as well because they are canalphones, just branded "Fontopia".
The Shure's and Etymotics can be described as canalphones and "entry level" audiophiles because they do sit in the canal, but the audio performance is much much better than the others in your list. They are not, however, better than other audiophile canalphones such as Shure E4C's or Ultimate Ears UE-10Pro's.
Your "earbud" category is correct.
If you need further explanation or any further info, just ask.

Thanks a lot!
By the way, how do you define this
Audio-Technica ATH-EC7 Inner Ear Headphone
Should this one belong to Clip-on Style, Canalphones ?
What do you think? :-)

Clip on Style earphones, they are definately not canalphones. By the way, just wondering, why are you making a list?

The ec7 can stay in your ears ery well since you can adjust the clips so that they can clamp down harder. Also, the buds of ec7 have very little isolation when compared to the 71/81/e3. I believer ATH-EC7 should belong to clip-on. This is just my 2 cents.
