I have had my iPod for nearly 2 years now and have always used iTunes to encode CD audio tracks to AAC format with no problems at all.
However, since upgrading iTunes to version 4.9, I am having a few problems as follows:
1) I insert an audio CD (original or copy) and iTunes recognises that there is a CD present.
2) The Gracenote server is contacted and a full tracklisting is displayed.
3) I now Highlight all the tracks and click 'Convert to AAC' and iTunes appears to start converting.
4) However it does not actually convert - You get the 'orange circle with a sine wave' icon, but in the progress bar you see nothing, where as you used to see something like 'converting track xxx at speed yyy, at whatever percent'.
5) When track one has 'supposedly' finished converting it moves onto track 2 and does exactly the same, then track 3 etc.
6) It even creates the directory structure in the Itunes folder as normal and the 'correctly named track files are placed within the folder, However the files have sizes of 0MB or just above. I think they are created but are empty.
Now Apple say there is a solution to this problem, which I have tried it and it doesn't work.
Firstly they tell you to 'UnCheck' the "Use error correction when reading audio CDs"
WHY???? I have always used this option so why do I have to change it now?
Secondly they tell you to upgrade your CD Drive firmware. WHY???? I have had no problems before, so why now. And although I actually carried out the firmware upgrade, it still didn't work.
I find this totally annoying and am wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, and if so a solution would be gratefully appreciated.
Cheers
