At long last, I finally got an iPod. However, I am waiting for a case before i open it. I am thoroughly confused as to which case I should buy. I've determined that it should, first, buy one of the plastic wrap type of cases that I would leave on the iPod forever because it would allow me to do everything i could normally do w/ my ipod. Where do i find the best one of these? For the best price?
Next, i need a regular case. I had been hoping that i could find one with an armband. I've looked through the accessory list, and there was no easy way of isolating the ones with armbands. Which of these cases are recommendable?
Finally, if there are no great armband cases, i could settle for one without an armband.
Please ask me any questions you need, as i am very confused right now and probably didn't give you half of the info you need to help me... thanks.

i was thinking about the showcase, but i realized it would make it a bit bulky as it was designed for the thinker ipods. How does the iSee compare to it? Also, how tight is the iSee? if i put plastic wrap or something similar around my ipod, will it fit in the iSee?
thanks

MY experience:
The biggest point is" "How will you carry it?"
- in a pocket? Avoid silicone cases (too sticky) and aim for thinness.
- in a bag? Aim for protection. (silicone, hard case, etc.)
- on your belt? Aim for a GOOD clip and decent impact protection (silicone is good for this)
I own a silicon case, a fleece pouch, a clear plastic hard case, and a www.itzkitz.com ipodkits case. I USE the itzkitz case BY FAR most of the time. Strong, removeable clip; smooth easy to carry in pocket styling; decent protection over all; full access to controls. Only drawback is cannot go in cradle in the case. (Note- itzkitz is very similar to several other case models- any would work about as well probably.)
2nd heaviest use is the silicone case- used when I am 'bagging' my iPod or using it at the gym.
Armbands? When would you wear the armband? Because of the jostling, armbands are not the best option most of the time. In the gym, I either carry it in my pocket or set it near the machine. Walking, I do it in a pocket or home-made neck pouch (soft neck cord!) UNDER my shirt.

Thanks a lot Madkins007, that really breaks things down for me
I guess that the iPod's location, then, would be in the pocket or in a bag, much more in a pocket, though. I have enough money only for one case, however. Anyone here use the iSee? It seems pretty nice for $20.00.
The wanted the armband b/c I was planning on running with it, but I am also getting a shuffle, which i guess would be more convenient.

on another note i found two plastic protectors for the iPod.
iPodStyles PowerGuard Clear iPod Protector
and the
Trendy Geek PodShield
does anyone have any experience with those? I wanna use them as a sort of underwear, so that i could put them on first, then i could put on the actual case. Thanks...
well first of all if you have the isee you dont really need another covering on it because it comes with a plastic sleeve that you put the ipod in before you put it in the isee itself which prevents scratches... i dont have the whole trendy geek podshield but i do have the screen covers from trendy geek which are the same thing and they do work good, i cant get all of the air bubles out from underneath it though. another popular thing is the icondum which they sell on ebay and ive heard good things about.
The armband situation is a tough one, but if you are getting a shuffle then there really isnt a need to get an armband, since the shuffle is better to run with anyways. however if you do get an armband i have the marware sportsuit convertible which i have had no problems with running, however some people have complained that it scratches up their ipod. the ultimate armband seems to be the one that you can buy to go with the otterbox case, they make very nice cases and a solid armband. they were reviewed by ipodlounge and got good scores, but it is more pricey than most cases.

i've decided on the showcase despite its bulkyness.. went for the black one b/c ppl have complained about yellowing in the white one.
Gave up on the whole armband thing... shuffle will do...
Still looking for "underwear" for my ipod. Something i never have to remove from the unit. xz33: are you saying that the podsheild will cause air bubbles? i find this hard to believe b/c i can't see a static adherence causing air bubbles... am i being thickheaded? idk.. its late
Also is there anything like that, that will cover the WHOLE iPod?

With the Contour Showcase, you won't need "underwear" because your Pod will be thoroughly protected, and you won't need to remove it from the case.
That said, there is something called "the invisible shield" that works like a second skin. The material was originally invented for helicopter blades -- very protective. The problem is that it causes some refraction on the screen (almost a pixellated effect) so I would certainly not use it on a color Ipod (I had one put on my B&W). It makes for a tight squeeze in the Showcase though it does work.
The caution, however, is that you must apply water on the shield (quite a bit, actually) and then apply it to the Ipod. I had this done for me by the President of the company at MacWorld and i nearly fainted when he did it! Not for the faint of heart. But, once done, my Ipd seemed to be unfazed. But having seen it, no way would I ever do it myself!
Stick just with the Showcase, imho. You'll be delighted with its protectiveness plus its cool rubbery feeling!

I have a Showcase and while it does give a Humvee type protection, it definitely almost doubles the size of my 20GB photo. For this reason alone I am selling it in the classifieds in this forum. If I used my iPod in a more strenuous environment the Showcase would be perfect, but just for using it around the office a in the car I don't think I need this sort of heavy duty case over the sleeker smaller native size of the iPod itself, maybe with a smaller skin type of case.
well with the podshield i just can seem to get rid of the air bubbles inbetween the screen and the ipod... they're kind of annoying to look at but i dont mind them since it gives my screen another layer of protection
