I am not sure if I have an HP but i think I do. But just after looking at apple's support I am not so sure about calling. I have heard nice reviews but heres the thing. My friend tripped over the dock cord and the ipod went crashing. It still worked so I didn't care. This is the only time it has been dropped. 5 months later, the songs skip around and don't play.

I need a new one. or refurbished one whatever. It was a christmas gift from my parents and I can't just say I will get an mp3 player cause they spent a lot of money on it. I dont care if I have to pay like 150-200 because I did drop it one time but they are sounding like they (apple store) will charge me for any little thing ( like phone support after 90 days is 30 bucks and I don't even know if they can help.)

anyone have any suggestions. and does anyone know how to get in contact or the link for support for HP ipods because I couldnt find it. any help would be appreciated.

if it's under warranty, take it to where your 'rents purchased it and see if they'll replace it. I took mine into an apple store and they replaced it, no charge, no problem. my suggestion: call the place it was purchased from and then an apple store and find out if they will help. if not, call tech support and just ask if you can even send it to apple to get it replaced. is it under the 1 year warranty. feel free to pm me if you want.

lovingthrill--

Have you tried resetting / restoring your iPod? Often one or the other of these will cure the skipping problems, etc.

To reset a 4g iPod, hold down on the menu and select (button in the middle of the scroll wheel) buttons until you see the Apple logo.

If resetting doesn't work, I'd try a full restore with the iPod updater software. Restoring will erase everything on your iPod and set all the settings back to factory default. (Make sure you have copies of all your music files on your computer before doing!)

Also, you can tell for sure if you have an HP ipod by the logo on the back of the iPod. It will be Hewlett Packard's HP if it's an HP iPod.

Good luck--hope this helps!

methinks the fact that the iPod was skipping songs and not playing has nothing to do with it taking a dive.
