While on the phone with website I bought the ipod from, I told the guy I have Windows 98. He said, no problem, the ipod will work fine. I got my ipod in the mail today, opened it up and the first thing I read was "needs windows 2000, xp, me". ahhh

I've followed all of the instructions on how to set up ipod using Windows 98 and its not working for me. I've installed the mac opener, I've installed Ephpod, the whole works... Windows 98 recognizes the drive, I can open ephpod but everytime I run ephpod, and try to copy songs, I get a fatal windows error (VXD IFSMGP(01)--program will be terminated). Can anyone help? I know there are a few people up for yet another windows 98 challenge. (also, I'm using 98SE) Thanks!

I've followed every step that I could to install it on 98se. The only step I have problems on, which with my luck is probably the most important, is the updater step. When I try to run the setup.exe I get the error "ipod requires windows 2000 (sp4) or windows xp. Please update your windows software and try again".

I've never seen the Welcome to the installshield screen, as described below:

1) run apple's installer programme(setup.exe), it will load till the "welcome screen" where it says "Welcome to the Installshield Wizard for iPod For Windows download installer".

When I click on the install icon. It asked me what language I want. I chose English then the "progress bar" goes across a couple of times, as if it was installing and then that error message comes up. Do you have any ideas that can help me?

I actually was able to find that ipod-for-win file but when I tried to run it I got an error saying that I need win2k or xp. How come this will work on everyone else's computer but not mine?

I suspect that sticky is now out of date since the arrival of Updater 2.1 and it's lack of support for WinME.
Looks like Apple have dropped support for the Win9x family.

Interesting that the Apple Support Page still has a link purporting to be to Update 2.0.1, though it actually points to 2.1 now.
Looks like 2.0.1 is no longer available. Correct me if I'm wrong.
