Just going to get Ipod, quick starting question

Hello All!

I will be joining what seems to be a happy family of iPod users very soon. I am setting my computer and self up for the new ipod which should be coming in a couple days from the apple store. I have a very quick question, and pardon me if I am slow because I am a relative computer novice.

I have an i1394 4-pin port on a laptop Inspiron 8200. I have heard a lot / and read about people having problems with firewire, needing to buy it, whether they have it, what not.

How do I know if I have it? This I1394 port seems to be the generic firewire port, so am I good to go?

Sounds like you are good to go. One of the items you will receive with your iPod is an adapter that converts the 6-pin apple firewire config to your 4-pin firewire config.

you will have to plug your ipod into the wall to charge it. A 4 pin firewire port carries only the data lines on it, not the power lines.
