I just bought the dual USB/Firewire cable for my 3g iPod, to allow me to connect to my laptop @ work so I can transport files to/from home.
I plugged-in the new cable, loaded USB drivers, mounted the iPod, transferred some sample files from laptop. No problems. Then I un-mounted the device. All is happy :)
About an hour later, I picked up the iPod to skip past a song...the iPod was warm to the touch. I noticed (via the "hold-to-ear" test) that the disk was still spinning! iPod definitely un-mounted, but USB still connected to laptop.
A little bit of testing on my part proves that disk will continuously spin, mounted or un-mounted iPod. iPod will continue to charge with USB unplugged...
This is different than the Firewire functionality I am accustomed to. Guess I simply need to yank the USB connector from laptop when iPod un-mounted @ work.
Any other USB users can confirm this??
Note: Laptop is USB v1.1
