After many hours of pain ("write delay errors" etc.) trying to set my IPOD up to work with my PC, I have this advice:

Don't buy a cheap a firewire card. I made the mistake of buying a PCWorld own brand (PC-Line) firewire card - IPOD's do not like them! Try and transfer more than two songs at once at it'll end in tears, try and restore your IPOD and it'll fail.

I upgraded to the Belkin 3-port firewire and everything is beautiful. Transfer gig's of songs at once - and I'm certain it's faster.

I hope this will help someone.

(PC is a DELL 8100 1.4Ghz).

Great advice... Wish I would have read it a few months ago. I'm just now this morning realizing that all the problems I've had with my ipod (even having to send it back and get a shiny new one with a BLUE background....aw darn.) have been because of a crappy firewire card. I just started the morning off with 2 blue screens of death and i'm going to go home after work to 'operate'. Spectacular advice, especially for those who haven't gotten one yet. (but if you already have problems with it, someone on here suggested switching the slot it's in)
