Please help me:

I just got 2G iPod and installed the included software on my laptop...

When I attach the iPod via converter to 4 pin FireWire it is no usable by my laptop:

I find the iPod in my Device Manager under Disk drives as:
"Apple Computer_Inc. iPod IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device"
With an exclamation mark in a yellow circle next to it - meaning a problem...

in Properties it reports that "This device cannot start (Code 10)

however a lonk in system tray near the clock displays a little iPod icon and notes that it is connected when I connect it.

The iPod LCD displays "OK to disconnect with a check mark on top" all the time!

The laptop is a new Compaq X1000, running WinXP

Laptop's Device Manager reports my FireWire to be:
"IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers - VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" just in case...

Questions:

1) What can/should I do?
2) I just bought it will store.apple.com (I got referb.) authorize a return for this problem?
3) If I get a G3 iPod version am I to expect the same problem?

Any advice, help, tricks and tips are much appreciated!

Thank you...

It's probably not the iPod but more likely the firewire. Is this built in firewire? As you may know the iPod is very picky about which firewire it will work with.

If you can, connect it to another computer that has firewire--don't install any software on the other PC, just connect the iPod and see if it shows up in My Computer as a drive.

Might also want to try it w/o iPod Manager installed on your computer (and get rid of the MMJB iPod plugin as well).
