I've used many of the ID editing progs discussed on this forum and still cannot find one that will automatically insert the track number into the title.

I want my songs to appear like this on my iPod:

01 - song A
02 - song B
03 - song C

Instead, I have no manually type in this info in ephpod.

There's gotta be a prog that will do this for me!

I use a program called tagscanner: http://xdev.narod.ru/tagscan_e.htm

Its freeware, and its very handy and yes it can insert the track number into the file name, and visa versa.

Edit - Hey, my first post, look at that....... :)

There are a few programs that will do this. I will dig up some links for you, give me a few minutes.

(And you are not the only one who does this...and thank god, too, cause I thought I was weird for doing this :o)

http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/ <-- this is a nice one. It is the only program I have seen that lets you do "non-destructive" mass tag editing...that is, you can append or prepend info into tags that have existing text, and do so on more than one file at a time. It is *very* useful.

http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm <-- this is another good one. It has (IMO) a less confusing interface than the above, and it is very powerful, maybe slightly less so than the above. It's still a very good program though.

Really, if you want a simple yet powerful program, tagscanner is the way to go.

It has been doing non-destructive tagging for a while.

ID3-TagIt, which I use, will do that if you do Tag -> Filename "<K> - <T>" (number - title) to transfer the number to the filename title, and then Filename -> Tag "<T>" to put the whole thing (Number - Title) into the Title tag.

Kind of complicated, but for normal tagging from file names it's pretty good.

Thanks everyone for your replies... When I get back from class today, I'm gonna try these progs out.

Excellent, I tried the method using ID3-TagIt and it worked. Thanks to all that replied!
