HI ALL! GREAT FORUM! I have been reading on it for a while and looking at getting an ipod buy i am a little confused!

I am looking at a 2nd gen winpod! What i was wondering is will a 2nd or 3rd gen do what is important to me.

Other than music i like books to listen to! If i understand right 2nd gen with 1.3 works for Audible and bookmarks with out the bookmarks getting lost! right?

Do 2nd or 3rd gen ipod allow me to bookmark an mp3 book?
Example is i have the bible on mp3 and would need to bookmark to pick up were i left off!

I know the faq tells the hardware diff but what are the main feature diff on 2nd and 3rd or is there a side by side comparison you can point me to?

Thanks for your help! I did a search and read but i wanted to double check what i thought i understood!

3rg gen cannot keep a bookmark on MP3's. Only Audible.com files. Maybe Audible has The Bible available in their proprietary format. :)

Bookmarks would be sooo nice on MP3's!

Ok thanks! Other than on the go playlist is their any big features not on the 2nd gen that a third gen has? Money wise a 2nd gen would leave me enough to get a firewire card!

If I understnd correctly, you want to bookmark your spot in an audio track. With both the 2G and 3G iPods if you pause the track while you are listening to it, and then lock the buttons it will hold your place until the next time you turn it on...it will then start playing at your "bookmark".

The only downside to this, is that if your next iPodding session is listening to tunes, you will lose that bookmark. But it's better then nothing.

Try the Review section of this site http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews.php for in-depth reviews of both Gen iPods.

I've had both. A 10G 2G and now a 30G 3G. On nearly all accounts, I like the 3G better. I prefer the sealed buttons, the On The Go Playlist, the Clock interface and a bunch more of te features of the 3G. The only thing I like more about the 3G is the button config.

The rounded shape is far more comfortable and I believe it looks better. It's also a tad smaller. I keep mine, in an iSkin case, in the ashtray of my Audi S4. It's a perfect fit.

If there was a way to have the four hard buttons surrounding the touch wheel be sealed like onthe 3G that would have been perfect. The Rewind and Menu buttons are hard to reach in the ashtray.

Hope this helps!
