is their two types of ipods? 1 for windows and 1 for mac

No, there's just one version now.
But, actually all iPods are shipped for Macs (MiPods). The process to set up your iPod w/windows involves converting it to a WiPod. You won't even notice that you're doing it, but it's a technical difference.
But the equipment itself is the same for both platforms.
