Hi, can anyone help me. I connect my 40 gig iPod to my laptop via a USB 2.0 connection (I do get a good transfer rate through this). When loading music the battery keeps losing power though, and when this happens I lose all the music I've previously loaded. I then have to reformat inorder to reclaim the lost disk space.

I thought that the iPod would charge itself through the USB connection so I can't understand why it keeps running out. I'm now so sick of this that I'm toying with sending the unit back.

Is my iPod faulty, or would I expect the same from all of them?

USB will not charge the iPod.

Are you using the dual usb/firewire cable from apple? You'll need to use the firewire connected to the AC adapter to get power...

Thanks, I'd just searched the web and noticed that. I wondered what the firewire part of my wire was for. Next time I'll read the manual.

Thanks
