Hello, all.

I have been using my Ipod with much satisfaction. It is GREAT! I am thinking about getting a powerbook soon, but am using a basic W98 system to update files. I use my sister's G4 tower to edit rip to AAC.... My W98 is just for backups and transfers..

Now, the Mac folks are getting some SHark thing from the guys at Griffin.....supposedly this is like TIVO for radio on the mac.

What I would like to do is get one of these in Windows.....A 'VCR' for radio that would allow me to record local broadcasts (games, talk radio, DJs, Live stuff) when I am working or busy for playback via the Ipod.....Now, that would be cool and I would not have to listen to boring talk radio in the morning commute....

Anyway to do this?

I have seen software to do recordings of internet streams, but not all the stuff I listen to has internet streams (college stations). Plus, this stuff does not allow you to 'program' the software to record at different times of the day.

My sister says I should just get a Mac with this shark thing.....Of course, she could also get me a better paying job...

thanks for the help,
ZIpod

The replay radio software looks promising.

I don't listen to internet audio too often, but does anyone know if you can program your media player (WMP, Realaudio, quicktime?) to come on at certain times? How would this program know when to turn on what?

Also, this would be great if there were a programmable radio you could hook to it and program for a certain freq and time....then it could record via the sound card.

Hmmmm. Anyone using this?

Thanks

Now.... and this is a lot of work to set up but you might like it.

I don't know if you're in the UK, I have heard the people have got something like Psion's old Wavefinder digital radio to hook up to their PC and record from. That is a DAB that connects to the USB port. There are a few issues with it and its hard to find now but Expansys seem to have them ( http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=PSION_WAVE001 ).

Do have a good look round for sites about this, I don't have one but it does have some software issues. Start with http://www.spidersweb.freeserve.co.uk/dab/wffaq/

I have a 'Leadtek Winfast Deluxe' tv/fm PCI card (cost around ?45) that lets me watch/listen to TV/FM radio on my PC & allows TV timeshifting

It doesn't allow the same thing for FM but it does have a timer...you can set the timer to switch on & off on a particular station at a particular time, set it for as many times as you like, as long as the PC is on & the times don't overlap it'll record the radio straight to mp3.

You can even use your own MP3 codec if you want, I use LAME, works really well IMO.

Oh & you get a proper remote control too! :D

Hi zipod,
I recently used the demo of replay radio to automatically record 5 minutes of The Phil Hendrie Show each night for a week or so and it works great. It even comes with the a pretty complete list of pre-set talk radio shows complete with showtimes and urls all ready to record with one click of the mouse. It labels the file by show name and date for you. All you have to do is load it into the ipod and listen when you are ready, unless you want to edit out the comercials, etc. Of course, you can specify the quality of the recording, type of file to record as, and add your own stations to the list as well. I was so impressed at how easy it was I think I will go ahead and buy it. Hope this helps a little.

I'm pretty sure the Shark works for Win and Mac - although the Griifin site has at least one headline that refers to the Mac only.

I'm thinking of one of these too, for some of the NPR shows I enjoy. It sounds simpler than a lot of the multiple-software solutions I've seen used.

This caught my interest

Its called the Radio Shark (http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=5197_0_6_0_C)

Its a system for recording radio, and I trust the company and the review.

I purchased Replay Radio also. Very cool. You can specify any encoder you want so that the files are recognized by your iPod as audio books. That way you get bookmarks too. Compared with what I was paying for audible, this will pay for itself in a month.

there are some free apps out there too, just do some internet searches.

other mp3 players have this feature, I wish iPod did too. :(
I also wish Apple didn't halt the FM receiver that Griffin built - boo!!
