iPod chip supplier hints at upcoming plans
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1203
...According to a research note released today by American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu, PortalPlayer may have secured a contract with Apple for a 2GB iPod mini that would use flash memory as opposed to a HDD. The analyst believes such a player could debut sometime later this year....
I think this is a much better idea than having Shuffles at 2GB where you don't have a screen. I was hoping for news on the minis to get a boost to at least 8GB-- next year, probably.

Making the Mini 2GB sounds like a step back. Making the Shuffle 2GB and adding a screen is much better.

HDD spin while flash drives don't move and are just like a SD card or CF or whatever you have in a digital camera.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Trust me, flash memory is far better than a Hard Drive, and it would probably start at about 150 bucks.

I agree with flip. I think a redesigned Shuffle is a better idea.

that would be awesome
Flash players last longer and is much faster at loading than hdd players
but i think the ipod with hdds have like a 8mb memory for quick access
also, hdds eat battery life much faster
i'd actually prefer flash over hdd even if it was 2gb up against 20gb lol.
that's just me though...i don't have much music that's why

I have a 4GB mini, and I would buy a color screen 2GB flash memory mini in a second. What I would really like would be 2GB of flash built in and a SD card slot.

Well you would need to actually turn the play buttons 90 degrees clockwise :P

A new shuffle with larger capacity and a screen would be nice. :D

Yep, having the screen and playlists on the Shuffle is gonna be a HUGE improvement, I'm so sick of my 1GB.
So they're releasing it in October? That's tight!

I think they might drop one of the current shuffle models and replace it with this. It could be the shape of a Mini. So that's why that article is calling it a Mini, but maybe it would really be a 2G Shuffle. iPod Flash? Who knows. I wouldn't mind a 2GB Flash player, but personally, I like the no screen thing on flash players. One less thing for me to break when I bring it around.
I am waiting for a 10-15GB color screened iPod Mini. That will make me upgrade for sure.

iPod can't have an sd slot because if you put one, it woudn't be an iPod, Because "Pod" means that it's all in one little package, slick and smooth kind of thing. So if you had an sd slot, it would seriously cripple the looks.

Yeah, I agree, jonmadhash. They should save the SD slot for the iPDA. :p
