View Full Version : Attaching an Aux-Pod connector to an iDock cover for car install

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I currently have an Aux-Pod installed in my car that is just going to an iPod holder attached to an air vent. The Aux-Pod just plugs into the bottom of the iPod. I would like a more built-in solution, so I'm thinking of taking the cover off an iDock (can't just use the iDock because it doesn't pass the audio through) and attaching it inside the car somewhere. Then I need to attach the Aux-Pod cable to the iDock cover solidly, so that it doesn't come loose.
This is the part I need ideas for. How do I connect the Aux-Pod cable to the iDock solidly? The cover is fairly thin, so there's not a lot of real estate for glue.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Kevin

this is the exact same thing i was thinking about lately.
however i decided on going with installing the entire idock on. since i use a SIK IMP i can just skip plugging the audio into it and plug it into the dock instead and then have the imp power it through the dock connector.
what i was going to do though is the plug for the sik imp is shaped very much like the regualr apple plug. i was going to dremmel out the idock slot to fit the plug exactly then plug it in and very very carefully epoxy the plug to the inside of the idock.
that's the only suggestion i have for you so far.
hope i can help

This is about all I've come up with too. I'm just wondering if that little bit of epoxy will be enough to hold it there solidly.

i think if you had a strong enough epoxy and built up enough of it back there to form a nice solid area around the plug you should be good. just make sure the epoxy doesn't eat through plastic.
i need to go buy some today. i need it to glue my dock under the board that i'm going to bondo with an ipod back support etc.
the guy on here who did the installs on his for explorer, do you remember him. like for one he made a whole new console with an ipod slot and did a kick ### job? i can't remember exactly but he used somerhing like dental acrylic or dental adhesive to put his plug in like that. if you knew your dentist well enough you might be able to get some from them, or a supply shop but i'm always trying to find things for free.
