I'm thinking of getting a new case for my iPod, I heard the iskin was good. I like the whole screen protector idea, since I have a iPod Photo and it scratches really easily. I had some questions I was hoping that someone could kindly answer for me.
1) Does it damage your iPod? Like the white part? (I once bought a Speck and it left a BUNCH of smudges all over it :()
2) Does the screen protector scratch the screen? So much controversy about this.. I don't wan't my delicate iPod to get scratched.. I'm kinda scared :\
3) Is it convenient to take off, easy for the headphones, doesn't attract lots of dirt?
BTW, it's a 30GB iPod.. I've heard that the eVo2 is too tight for it and may damage the iPod, is that true?
Thanks,
- Kristy

On the same thread, can any tell me where you can buy the Iskin Evo2 from the UK ?
Maybe anyone can advise which UK websites people have used, and can recommend ?

Well, I just got one. Let's see if I can help:
1) Not that I have noticed at all. In fact, I have never heard of skins doing this. Perhaps though, you got dust inside of it? Before you put the iPod into the skin, you should probably wash both quickly. For the iSkin, it has directions on how to clean (just warm water and soap. Not hard), and for my iPod, I just used my spray eyeglasses cleaner. Works just as well. If not, just at least wipe down your ipod with a tissue or something. The point is removing dirt so it won't rub against the skin and pod and scratch it.
2) No, it doesn't even touch the screen. It has six little soft things (I think they called them contact points or something) that couldn't possibly scratch it (I hope...). If you're worried, even though I see no reason to be, buy a PDA screen cover and cut it (or splurge on an actual iPod screen protector, the film ones) and put it over the screen to further protect it.
3) Ok, alot of people say they have problems with taking it off and complain that it is hard. I personally, do not have this problem. To remove, just slip the screen part over top, then tug at the bottom of it on the respective corners until it comes loose. Don't be afraid to tug, I've done it about 5 times (in just one day, mainly cause I was obsessed...) and it hasn't snapped or anything. Comes off for me in about 15-20 seconds. Not as easy as a snap case or anything, but not hard. Although, the first time, before you get the hang of it, it is kinda hard I guess. But whatever. As for the headphones, it's fine, I haven't heard of any problems.
Now, the dirt. Ah, the dirt and lint. Yes, this (along with most all skins) attracts dirt like a moth to light. You have a few options:
a) daily cleaning. Just run it under water, a little soap, voila!
b) baby powder. Take iPod out of course, then rub it in baby powder (I wouldn't put it on the inside though, it might scratch...). This works wonders and completely reverses the need for daily cleaning and repels lint.
Uhh, as for the 30 gig question, I don't have one (I got a 20 gig) but the site says that a size A will fit it...I don't see a problem, but again, I don't have a 30 gig. I would try the size A, and if it's WAAAY too small, return it for a B (for the 40 and 60 gigers.
So, overall, this is a good case. Recommended.
As for where to buy it in the UK...er...how about the site? Apple stores have them, and I would be sure you have apple stores. So yeah. Aple stores, ebay, the site of course, etc etc.

Thanks a alot for answering my questions Leesa. I was thinking of an iskin, but now I'm kinda heading to the contour showcase. Anyone know if the glass/plastic that covers the front of the contour case scratch easily? Sorry, I don't mean to be picky.. but after spending $70+ on different skins, I wan't this next one to be perfect.. or near perfect.
EDIT: Also, is the inside padded? Will the plastic/glassy part for the front scratch the front of the iPod?
Thanks!

Hehe, hullo again!
So, the contour, eh? Veeeeerrry good case. I prefer it myself, and would have gotten it, if it hadn't doubled the size my poor 20 gig (I'm not a fan of bulk). So let's see here...padding? Humm...it comes with a pad to bulk up the sleeker iPods (you'll need one with a 30 gig). I don't know if that counts as padding but it definetly adds more shock protection. As for the inside, I don't THINK it has anything, but I could be wrong. It might have some rubber or something inside.
Will it scratch? Yeah, probably, but I don't know about "easily". It's inset in the rubber surrounding it, so, even if it were to drop, the plastic wouldn't touch the ground. But I suppose it will, like all other cases. But it shouldn't be as much as a problem as something like just clear plastic shells.
One thing, the rubber, like the skins, attracts every particle of dust within 40 feet. So, alot of people suggest getting the black, which is also very classy. But most Apple stores just carry the white (and some people just like how it integrates with the pod) then try some of my suggestions for the skin-lint problem, and, when it gets discolored dirty, then you could actually take some RIT dye and make it orange or purple or whatever color you want. It takes to dye very nicely, I've heard. Here's a pic by another user who did this: home.earthlink.net/~skipjimson/images/iPod/orangecase.jpg
Anyway, I don't know if this help, but I hope so. This is probably the BEST case ever, I woould suggest it. But if you don't like the bulk on your 30 gig, then you probably wouldn't really want the case. But then again, I think the 30 gig is a bit bigger than my 20, so it probably won't be too big for yours. So yeah. Great case, hope you like it!
ok, well i have both of these cases so ill see what i can offer on the situation. awnsering your top quiestions:
1) no, ive had mine since iskin came out with the skins for the 4g ipod and ive had no scratches because of the skin, the belt clip did melt onto my ipod because i left that on when it was charging, but ive since removed it and never used it again and no problems.
2) no it does not scratch the screen. i do believe that the older version of the screen protector caused some damage to the ipod so iskin changed it so that would no longer happen.
3) I have had absolutely no problems with getting it on or off or any of that. The lint hasnt been a problem for me. I have an arctic iskin so maybe i just dont notice it there, but ive had no problems.
ok, now onto the contour design showcase. The front cover of the case does scratch, not as easily as the ipod, but it does get scratches, i havent really noticed any on mine unless i take it off and catch it in the right light. The inside does have little rubber spots on it for the ipod to sit in, as well as many different inserts to fit any full sized ipod that you have. if you get an older one you can just email contour design and they will send you the correct insert free of charge. i have not had any problems with the case scratching the ipod itself. I would also advise the black version of the case for the reasons that the white will turn colors if you put it in the pocket of your jeans and stuff like that. the case itself does not attract dust.
overall they are both great cases and my favorites. It all depends on the individual person. If you want something slim fitting that wont add bulk to your ipod, but will protect it against some drops and scratches then id say go for the iskin. if you want a lot of protection from higher drops or falls and dont mind the added bulk which isnt really all that bad then id say go for the showcase.
search google -uk- for "cases ipod photo" the first one there -ipodessentials.co.uk im thinking of ordering one myself

Received my ISkin evo2 skin at the weekend. Got the 40gb White Ghost skin , and yes, it does glow in the dark !!!
Perfect fit, and all seems ok so far.
It did (and still has) a very strange rubbery smell, but I presume this will disappear after a few washes !!

I had a leather case which was fine, but it annoyed me that I had to remove it every time I wanted to update. Every time I added some music I got greasy finger marks all over the back of myPod (I use screen wipes for cleaning). iSkin doesn't fit in the dock, so doesn't solve that particular problem; but it does have the nifty little flap at the bottom which prevents grot getting in the docking port.
FYI I got my iSkin from rg media on UK ebay (cheapest price I've found so far). Ordered Friday lunchtime, arrived Saturday morning. Can't argue with that!

The belt clip disc on the iskin might be a problem. It scratched mine....
Take it out, bite it, stomp on it, run over it with your car, and throw it away. :)
