I currently have a CDA-9847 with the KCA-420i. For those of you would have a similar setup, you might find this trick interesting (if you don't already know it :) )
If you are like me and have a large number of Artists on your iPod (were talking hundreds upon hundreds), you know that it can take a VERY LONG time to get to the artist you are wanting to listen to. It's okay if the artist title starts at the beginning or end of the alphabet (since you can scroll backwards also (Z, Y, X, W...). But if the artist is in the middle...good luck :D
Here is the trick I learned...I noticed that the Alpine will always pick up where ever it left off. For instance, if you listening to a certain artist and song and shut the car off, when you turn everything back on, it resumes right where you left off. But soon I figured out that, it is picking up exactly where the iPod left off. So, if you want to listen to an artist in the middle of the alphabet, say...Maroon 5. Turn off the Alpine HU or just disconnect the iPod, then select Maroon 5 on the iPod, press play, then reconnect to the Alpine. The Alpine will resume playing the Maroon 5 song you selected. Much easier than spending a huge amound of time trying to scroll down on the HU.
Hopefully someone fill find this trick useful. :)
