I'd settle for a dock stand that mounts on the dashtop with line out jack and dc charger cable.

Simple, but does everything I'd want.

Yeah, why hasn't anyone made a "vertical" dock yet? The only place I could use the standard dock in my Stratus was way down in the console cubby hole. If there was a dock similar to the TransPod where I could just drop my iPod into it and not have to hook up a cable every time that would be great.

there's where building your own custom piece comes into play.

i'm building a docking station to fit into my jimmy. the sik imp is going to attached to it as well, so all you do is slip your ipod in and go. if everything goes right it will be on a nice angle too, perfect viewing angle, plus it's in my console right at the end of the armrest so controling it is easy.

now all i gotta do is get a dock cover for a 40gb to mold into my piece.

so if someone doesn't make what you want, make your own. i've never done this kind of stuff before, but it's fun to experiment.

I love my SiK IMP because it let me use my old 1G car charger since it's got a firewire connector on it, and the line level output is a great feature too. Someday I hope to use that line level output to pipe directly into my car stereo, but until I have more money to upgrade my stereo, I'll just have to live w/ my iTrip.

When I first bought my 4th Gen 20GB IPOD I started surfing the posts on here and read about the SIK IMP and decided to buy it and try it out with my Pioneer Head unit that has an AUX input. It's awesome sounding. Cleanest signal I've ever heard, charges my IPOD and doubles as a firewire out connection if needed.

Here's some links to help you out if you need them.

SIK IMP 03-104 with DC Charger.
$29.95 is what paid + $5.43 shipping.
(note you can get the adapter without the charger for a bit less but I like having the charger in case my IPOD battery is running low.)
They also have a bunch of other cool IPOD accessories and no I'm not affiliated with them at all.

Then for my Pioneer head unit I needed to buy an IPBUS to RCA adapter. It's just a short adapter that plugs in the back of the IPBUS on the head unit that has female RCA left and right connections. The manufacturer was Soundgate and I bought it off a yahoo store. Again no affiliation for me just good price ($10.59 + $8.95 shipping) and fast delivery so thought I would share the info.

To the IPBUS to female stereo RCA adapter I then connected a $5.00 to $10.00 stereo mini male to RCA male wire (available in most any local computer or audio stores) to the SIK adapter.

This setup for me works great as when I get to work I hid most of my wires under my center console and simply just squeeze the SIK connector to disconnect my IPOD when I leave my car.

Also, I left enough length on my cabling so that I can hold the IPOD in front of my face if needed so I can glance down at it to surf for a song or simply hit the next button on shuffle mode.

I considered buying the $140 retail Pioneer CD-IB100 iPod adapter

pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_2007714_192089315,00.html

but I read on another thread here

forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78125&perpage=15&highlight=pioneer%20adapter&pagenumber=13

that it had some problems and it had up to a 2 to 3 second delay.

I definately didn't want that delay and I like using the IPOD wheel better than my Pioneer Head interface. So, it's not as clean of a look at the Pioneer solution but I saved some cash and I can use the SIK adapter in other cars and home stereo's, etc.

So in summary this is what I'm using and my cost including shipping.
1. SIK IMP with DC adapter $36
2. PIONEER IPBUS ADAPTER $ 20
3. Mini male to RCA male stereo wire $5
Total = $ 61

Cheers :) Bruce
