Songs not displaying right

Alright, so I tried to get my songs from itunes to my ipod.
I went to artists, then looked at all the songs by the various artists.
Not all of the songs were transferred onto artists, some of them went only to the songs list and not the artists.
Further, some of the songs were transferred twice.
I want my ipod to be as simple as can be, I would like to know how I can have all of my songs displayed under artists, and how I can remove duplicates. Thanks.

Sounds like the songs that aren't showing up in "Artists" are not tagged properly in iTunes. Go to the "Get Info" menu on the offending songs and I bet there is no tag for Artist.

There is also a menu selection to show duplicate files within iTunes. I forget which menu it is in though.

Where is the get info menu? When I plug in the ipod to my computer, the songs are grayed out and do not allow me to click or right click.
Also I can not find how to show duplicates.

You need to check the Info screen in your Library, not the iPod. The iPod only does what iTunes tells it to, so you need to fix the tags in iTunes. Click on Library in the source pane, then find one of the ofending songs, right click on it, then left click on Get Info. Go to the Info tab and make sure it's tagged properly with the artist's name. if not, you've probably got a bunch of re-tagging ahead of you.

Show Duplicate Songs is under the Edit menu up top, third from the bottom in the list.
