A short while ago, I purchased the Sony EX51-SP (Short 50cm Cable version) in Japan without knowing that the LP version existed. I loved the comfort of them and the isolation and the sound quality. However, the short cable length made them unusable for me. More recently, I bought the EX81-SPs due to the favorable review here, but realized that the ear clip just doesn`t work with me. I also have the Sony Q66LW (ear hanger style headphones with cord windup built in) in a glossy Brown color that don`t work with me either due to the ear hanger style.
Does anybody (US preferable) want to trade their Sony EX51-LP (Preferably in black and gold) for any of the headphones I own? If youre interested, please email me at flashkl@gmail.com . I am open for negotiations and such. Please Email me if you want more information. Thanks!
flashkl, you do know that you can use the extension from your EX81-SP with the EX51-SP; also, thew 51SP shopuld also include an extension.
BTW, the 51 may not be as tight on the lower end as the EX71. You may also want to consider the Sharp 4 pole sound (because they are good fitting in addition to having awesome dirivers).
I'll look for my EX51-LP, in case you havnt found a satisfactory solution.

the 51SPs did not include an extension, but I`ve been using the 81`s extension like you said. But the extension is too long, and the weight of the plugs in the middle of the cord is uncomfortable. I will look into the Sharps, but I don`t think they have a long cord version of their inner ear phones. Please tell me if you can find your 51LPs, that would be great!
Perhaps you can trade someone for a short length extension. I will see if I have an extra one in my collection.
In the meantime, you can wrap the cord, adjusted to a comfortable length, into one of those rubber pencil grips from Wallys, a dollar or two for a huge selection, or any stationary store. I find that, give or take, six inches from the end of the plug , the pencil grip (choose your personal color), when tucked into the pants will solve both the problem of the excess length, and gravity's weight. I found it a good solution, an alternate to the pricy "Smart Wrap". And, as the Brits would say, "Trendy". :o
If you were to sell your 81SL outright, what would you ask.
Noticed your cheese one liner. I have a plastic badge button from an Old Songs Festival that says "Mange. Merde. Morte". Translates to Eat S.h.i.t and Die.

Haha. Like your badge! That`s french, right? Gotta love it. I`m not sure how much new 81s retail for, but since mine is relatively new and mostly unused, i think i would want about 15 USD for it. Tell me if that seems like asking too much. I also have another gripe with the extension cord setup: the connection in the middle makes it difficult and impracticle to wrap the headphones around my ipod, to store in my pocket. That is another reason I want to go for a single cord solution. I am about to check out the Sharp headphones, but I think I will stick with SOnys. Also, I am beginning ot think that buying new 51LPs could be cheaper than trading headphones with someone, including the shipping costs....
I'll buy the EX81 at your asking price.
I havent been home for the weekend, went to the Harpoon BBQ beah bash. Winsor, Vt was beaut- tifull, and the old Catamount Brewery was a great place for the fest!
At any rate, you may be right, I have seen the EX51 selling for $22, shipping extra.
You may want to upgrade to the EX71LP, however. Your choice, of course.

there is such thing as ex71LP? Huh. I just realised that I left the most important detail out. If you`ve shown interest so far, I apologize. I am currently in Japan and will be until the end of August. If you live in Japan, I can send you the headphones now, but the shipping costs to America from here are way too high. I`m sorry I didnt say this earlier. If you are still interested when I get back to America, please tell me.
I believe the LP and the SP are the same, long (read regular) length. SL, short. Confusing.
Altho not always true, the earphones in Japan might be less costly than in Bush country.
Since you are in Japan, ironically, I have a new unopened pair of the JVC HA-FX55 to trade. In addition to the pair I am using. They are similar to the EX51 but with a frequency response of 5-24K Hz. One hitch. In white.
While there you may want to seriously consider the Sharp HP-MD33S. They sound superb, and are like $39 at Audiocubes (as opposed to the JVC's $45 price).
They sound best, next to the Audio Technica (Ti) sticks, for me, bud wize.
Then of course there are the canalphones.
Happy Tunes, iBop.

PS Found my EX-51LP!

I think that LP stands for L-shaped plug and SP stands for Straight plug. Since the 81s and 71s come with both, they are reffered to as SLs (Straight and L). Why ironically? Are you in Japan too? Or are the headphones here?? The Sharps really sound that good, even without Sharp`s four pole compatible MD players? And don`t they have the (dreaded) short cord? And the JVCs: are they the Gummy ones they are marketing here? And don`t they also have the short cord? At this time, I`m still putting cord length over better sound quality or comfort since I`m satisfied with the Sony 51s in both fields. Are the Sharps and JVCs really that much better?
Thank you, I will do my best to avoid the terrorists. And with Bush`s clever tactics (revenge), they are sure to be gone by the next blue moon.

Nice! Are you willing to trade? If you will hang on until I`m back in the country, I`ll be happy to make a deal.

No problem, I just figured it out too.

Crap, I still have a pair of 51LP's, but they are no longer new in box. I still have all the rubber/foam pieces in all sizes. If you're still interested...I would be.
Now, I am really confused!
"I have a brand new in box pair of 51LP". "I still have a pair of 51LP's, but they are no longer new in box".
You really used it for a few minutes?

Haha no, I owned two pairs of 51LP's, one was sealed and one was used. The sealed ones are lost in the attic/ could be in the trash. I went to look for them when I made this post and haven't found them. I have a pair of 51LP's that I have used, and work GREAT still and are clean. I literally used a cotton swab every time I used these particular earphones just to be clean. I have a studio pair that didn't require that much cleanliness which I use more often. BTW, they are the black with the small gold portion on the earbuds. As for an offer I'd be willing to trade for the 81's if not id be willing to consider a lot of things so go ahead and shoot your ideas. Now Im rambling and this is a long message. The End.

Another tidbit, I bought the second pair of 51's as a gift for someone else, but I changed my mind and got him a Season Pass to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and lost the receipt and it was past the 30 day return policy...In case any one was wondering why I bought two of the same pair and never opened the other.
Ye had me goin, lad!
Hope you find the treasure in the attic. :o

Erm. The 81s actually already have a buyer, I`m afraid, but Id be willing to pay cash, or bring you back summat from Japan... What do you think?
the4starish
07-29-2005, 09:49 PM
summat? I dont know what that is. As far as cash, how much would you say is fair? I think I paid $42 or $43, but that was new with box, as I explained before, these are no longer new. Maybe half what I paid?
flashkl

Whoops, sorry. I was in my instant messaging mode... summat refers to something. So if theres anything you want that only can be bought in Japan, I might be able to get it. As for cash, I would be able to get brand new ex51LPs for $25 with free shipping from amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000095SB6/qid=1122702630/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-5375493-6954325 ) so if I were to buy them used off of you, I would hope to get a betetr price (I know how cheap theyve become; when I bought my 51SPs, they were approximately $40 too, and now they can be bought for half price...annoying). I wonder if it would be easier jsut to get them new...

Yeah, you're right, they have dropped. I guess for that price, it wouldnt hurt to have another pair of earbuds. Oh well, it was worth a shot for both of us. Sorry for the trouble.
Glad to see everythiiing is resolving to everyone's satis. : )
.
BTW, anyone have a pair of Sharp 4-poles for sale, or Senn MX550. Aiwa HP-SC21? Or Sony NX-1 neckphones. (Like, I reel-aly need another pair of earphones for my hydra phantasy...)
I really need to go see a shrink.

Ok, Ill buy a pair new either here or in the states... I guess its not worth the trouble to trade for 20 dollar earbuds..ah well. Anybody want my short cable ex51s?
Yah, Sure. I'll buy them. (I cant believe I am saying this)
