All music and playlists disappeared on ipod but files still exist

OK, where do i start? Got a 60GB photo that's been working fine until yesterday.

I have been using it at work where we have lots of network drives.

I plugged it in to my work pc yesterday and opened itunes and instead of showing 'Paul's ipod' in itunes it showed 'H:\'

Ejected the ipod and all my playlists and songs had gone from the ipod. The PC had allocated the ipod the same drive letter as a network drive so I connected it up again and went into computer management and gave it drive Z.

Had a look in the ipod_control folder and all of my mp3's are still there it's just they don't show up on the ipod or in itunes.

Is there some index file that has been deleted?
I had a look on the network drive that had the conflicting drive letter and an ipod_control folder had been created with the following files:
DeviceInfo
iTunesControl
iTunesDB
iTunesEQPresets
iTunesPrefs

all the files on the ipod with the same name are the same size so doubt its anything to do with these files

has anyone got any ideas? thanks in advance!!

here is what happen to you.

When u loaded your mp3's to your ipod what is at work or at home?

If it was from home, and u went to your office and installed itunes
and plugged it into your work "PC" your playlist are gone!

You shld hv seen a prompt that says this ipod belongs to other
computer. all files will be deleted.

Dave--you might want to try a reset of your iPod to see if this helps.

For 4g's reset by holding down the menu and select (button in the middle of the scroll wheel) buttons until you see the iPod logo.

To reset a 3g, hold down the menu and play buttons.

I have been using it in manual sync mode, i have connected it to at least five pc's runnning itunes and have never been warned that my music will be deleted, it works fine on all pc's.

i have tried a reset and it still doesn't show the tunes.

Is there any way i can reindex the music, even if i lose the playlists?
