In my continuing homework on a solution for my Focus, I was wondering if there are any head units that mimic the look of the Audi head units: very clean and simple with the red numeric display. It's kind of SAAB-like in a way with the anti-glare aviation type of lighting (everything in red). I seem to remember the older Blaupunkt units having this, but it looks like all the new ones use the really high contrast display.
I've heard the Alpine lets you switch through 4 colors. Would that include the display as well?

As far as Alpine goes, the CDA-9847 is about the only one that allows you to switch the illumination colors (red/green/blue/amber). The display remains white regardless of what illumination color you select.

Yes, some of the Clarion head units let you change all of the colors, including the backlight on the display. However, I know of none that let you change the text color, if that's what you are looking for.

With so many manufacturers using red/orange internal instrumentation (BMW, Audi, Pontiac, Saab, etc), I'm surprised there aren't more companies making red-colored head units.

The current trend seems to be for blue or white text displays, for whatever reason.
