I just got an iPod mini for my fiance and am trying to get it set up for her to listen to on her way to work. I tried the installation disk and then downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and get the same result from both.

The install process allows me to select the language, then gives me progress as it's preparing the install Wizard. That completes, and the window disappears, and then I get nothing except a taskbar icon for "InstallShield - iTunes." When I select it the icon, nothing displays on the desktop. Right click allows me ot select "Move" (which does nothing so far as I can tell) or "About InstallShield", which tells me the version of InstallShield. It's as if the window is displaying off screen (presumably on the page asking me to accept the license agreement or one of the other initial steps of the install), and nothing I do will get anything relating to the install to display.

My computer continues to function correctly, and no activity is evident in Task Manager for the itunes installer.

I'm running XP pro with SP2. Based on posts I've seen here and on the internet I've disabled my virus protection and firewall before attempting the install. I've tried both "Run As Administrator" and logging in as Administrator to run the setup. I get the same result every time.

I've seen lots of posts on the internet and here of people having the install hang during the installation of QuickTime, but obviously I'm not getting even that far.

The irony is that I thought the install of the Dension Ice Link in my fiance's car would be the hard part. In fact that was a breeze, and the software install--which should be a cakewalk--is what's proving to be the incredibly difficult part of the project.

Any help any of you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tim

Well, after lots of failed attempts, I solved my own problem. I had to right click on iTunesSetup.exe, select "Properties," select "Compatibility," and then select the check boxes for "Disable visual themes" and "Turn off advanced text services for this program." Once I did that, the install ran without a problem.

I then tried to install the iPod software from the disk that came with my Mini, and had the same issue. So, I made the same changes to the properties of iPodSetup.exe that I had made to iTunesSetup.exe, and that too worked.

So now my iPod is all set up and ready to go.

While I'm relieved to have it working, I do have to say that this was pretty dissapointing. If I could return my mini, I would. Of course I can't since I got it through TiVo rewards.
