I've read through the sticky's etc and haven't really found anything thats like this.

Ok. so I had a 3rd gen 20gig previously (up until yesterday). Everything was fine. I would use itunes on my desktop and would just plug it in for data stuff on my laptop I use for work. No problems there.

Yesterday I got a "new" 60gig colour. I ripped all the music off the ipod onto my laptop (it was with me at the time) so that I could move it all back onto my new ipod later. So, I plug in the colour on my desktop. everythings fine, fire up apple updater, install new itunes (4.9), and proceed to move some music on.

I then install itunes on my laptop. plug in the colour and move the remainder of my music.

However. Now on my desktop. The ipod won't mount properly. It only ever shows up as "removable disk (I:)". and has the "safely remove hardware" thing. then after a few min of having it plugged in I get a pop up box that says something like "this ipod needs to be formatted for us on this PC" blah blah blah. I can't even access the ipod through windows. It just tells me to insert a disk. ?.

And I know that it's not formatted for mac since it works like a charm on my laptop. I know it's not corrupted because it works on the laptop and still functions properly.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I believe this behaviour is by design - the iPod locks itself to one installation of iTunes to stop it being used as a method of transferring music from one PC to another.

Only odd thing is it's not even letting me access it as a removable hard drive anymore. which it used to do on other computers.

it's as if it was formatted for a mac, which it isn't.

it's odd that it would disable all access to the ipod.

is there some way to verify that any/all traces of itunes/ipod is removed from the system? registry entries etc?
