library transfer

my itunes library and all my music is stored on my laptop. i recently got a new pc, and i want to move all the music to the pc, while still keeping my laptops library intact. i have already tried moving the music, with a USB thumb drive; filling it up w/music on the laptop, then dumping it onto the pc, repeating that process until i moved everything. after doing this, my laptop couldn't find all my music files, and my pc's itunes was acting goofy too. are there other files i'm not transferring that i should be? whats the easiest way to do a computer to computer transfer ? thanks for any help.
