shuffle malfunction problem

hi i loaded up my shuffle and it was in sync with itunes, so it did work.

i started to listen to a track, i decided that i wanted to add this track that i was listening too to my shuffle playlist. ive got this set to update on the fly whenever i drop a new tune in the list.
this is when i had the problem, within 10 seconds i get a windows message saying windows cannot recognise this usb device etc etc.

now my shuffle cant be broken as a few minutes ago it was working fine with itunes. so what have i done wrong here?

was it that i tried to upload a track to my shuffle and i was listening to it at the same time? could this have cocked things up?

and how do i sort this malfunction out? right now my shuffle is deadi cant even get a battery life meter to work.

I think I have a similar problem, one minute I was using my shuffle with iTunes and the next minute i go to leave the house and its not working. Mines still charges lights still work although the lights just flash green and orange every time I press any button. iTunes doesnt recognise the shuffle either and the updater doesnt work, tried reinstalling iTunes and reformatting the shuffle that way but still doesnt work, just goes on for ages. I dont think its a fault with my computer as Ive tried it on 2 of my other computers and exectly the same problem! Only had it since march aswell :(
