File plus ! problem [Archive]

I have just become the latest member of the I pod family. When I formatted the hard drive to remove all excess junk. I received a file & astericks on my Ipod. I have updated the drivers and software, but when I try to load the uodate, it says Ipod service error. Do I remove the ipod from the computer and re install or is there something else I need to do???

PS my 2 sons Ipod minis work fine on this computer!!!!
maybe i'm too old for all this technology!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:confused:

Thanks for the welcome.
i've tried this update but it still says service error!!!!!! I have can't understand why it was working before I did the formatt. I'm using realplayer which says there are songs on the device. I also tried resetting the ipod which just threw up the Icon again. I have also removed and re installed the software. Am I really this bad at computers????
