Hi, I'm new to the forums and would appreciate some advice. I'm after phones for my mini and can't stand the in-ear type. What I want is a lightweight pair of on the ear (preferably foldable)phones. After searching various forums I've got a short list of Koss Portapro, AKG K26P, and Grado SR60. Some degree of sound isolation would be handy although not vital.....unfortunately I'm not going to get a chance to audition any locally.
What difference in sound will I notice between these? How much do they leak sound?
As for the type of music I listen to: it's a real mixture, currently Led Zep, Al Green, Hank Williams, Steely Dan, Otis Redding, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle, John Fahey, Neil Young, Tom Waits all feature. The odd classical thing too.
Any advice/opinions welcome thanks.

The Sr60 is widely considered to be the best sub $100 headphone. ON another note Koss gives you a lifetime warranty though. If you want more advice check out
the headphone forums at head-fi.org and headphone.com

Correction, MS1 is the best sub $100. SR60 best value at $69 in US.

Just bought the AKG K26P. Excellent value for money given the sound quality, at just €40.

AKG 26 would be fine, it will also leak the least sound of all the headphones you mentioned.
The SR60 is a superb value too, but it leaks a lot of sound

I have the Koss PortaPro's..
Their sound is very good I would say! And the customer service at Koss is really good. They'll replace or repair your phones quickly if things go bad.
Also, they are reasonably priced. Check amazon.com for a price.
One thing that might upset you about the PortaPro's is:
1) Their looks. These headphones aren't stylish at all, but VERY handy and comfortable to wear.
2) They do NOT isolate at all against outside sound.
3) At the same rate at which they let sound in (which is PLENTY), they let sound escape. If you listen loudly, you'll bother people around you for sure.

I say as long as its AKG, go for it. Try to get a good deal in eBay :)

Although I would recommend the grado's over anything else in the price range, they're not foldable and have no isolation whatsoever, so they're not really what you're looking for. I would still recommend them though :D
