I was thinking of getting the Apple In-ears, so I need some opinions.

Does the Apple In-ears sound more like the Sony MDR-EX51LP/EX71SL, or does it sound more like the earbuds that came with the iPod?

Thanks in advance for the help.

There is considerably alot more bass with the Apple in ears or the Sony's since they sit almost in your canal. My friend has the Apple in-ears and they tend to slip off. I had the Sony ex71's and never had that problem.

Um, actually, I was wondering about the general sound of the Apple in-ears compared with the stock earbuds and the Sony MDR-EX51LP/EX71SL, not just bass.

I felt that the stock earbuds were very 'unclear' and muddy. When I first tried the Sony MDR-EX51LP/EX71SL, I was suprised by the 'clarity' of the sound, especially for voices.

Can anyone comment on the Apple In-ears?

Can anyone else help?

apple in ears are somewhere in between the stock buds and the MDR-EX71SLs. The sound clarity and definition is better in the Sony models, which tend to replicate better since the fit is better than the apple 'phones. I find that the sony's can sound a little muddy at the high end of the bass range, but it's not too bad, and much better than the Apple in ears.

The in-ears are a step up from the stock earbuds, certainly, but they're not as good as the sonys.

Hello. I disagree with teh last post about the Sony's being better than the Apple in-ear.

I've own the Sony MDR-EX71SLs, the apple in-ear, and the OEM earbuds the ipod ships with.

At first, I thought I'd give the earbuds a shot. They felt terrible to me. They hurt my ears, sounded like garbage, and that little black cover kept popping off.

Shortly afterwards, I did some research on affordable in ear headphones, and opted for the Sonys. The sound quality on the sonys are wonerful. Slightly better than the apple in-ear when it comes to bass, but I also noticed poor sound quality at high end response. I used them for about a month every day at work.

Then they broke. Seriously just like that. The cord is cheaper than dirt and stretches destroying the filament inside of the wire much easier than any other hedphones I've ever owned. On top of this, it has a weird 'behind the head' wire configuration that I quickly grew to hate. First the left earbud stopped working, then about a week later, both ear buds were completely dead.

The cord was super long, and annoying. It had an extension piece that I found no use for (because I don't lanyard my 60gig photo).

After they broke, I was so disappointed with their build-quality (not sound-quality), I figured i'd try the apple in-ear (I've never been disappointed by an apple product yet).

Went to the local apple store, picked them up. Sound quality... not bad at all. MUCH better than the original earbuds. Slightly under the Sonys. My biggest complaint, was that they wouldnot stay in my ears. No matter what size I used.

So, being the clever guy I am, went home, and took the earbuds off my broken Sony's, and stuck um on the Apple in-ear.

Now I use the best set of headphones I could ask for. They fit comfortably, snug, sound great, and and quality that I'm not worried about breaking on me in a few weeks.

If you can get the Apple in-ear, and some Sony MDR-EX71SLs earbud caps, I highly HIGHLY recommend this combo. Hope this help

I'm thinking about doing the sony earbud caps on the apple in-ear but, does switching the earbuds give the apple in-ear better sound quality or does it just make it more comfertable and fit into your ear better? In other words do the apple in-ears sound better than the EX71's, with the EX71's earbuds on them? Thanks in advance.

Hello, both the Sony and Apple caps completely wrap around the plastic protruding piece that tunnels into your ear (in turn producing the sound). So.... if I had to say.. I would go ahead and state that there is no difference. I'm no audio expert, but to me, I can hear no difference at all with either caps. The Sony's are a definite winner when it comes to comfort, which is the only reason I chose them over teh apple caps.

Personally, buying the in-ear headphones was one of the best pruchases I've made for my iPod. They have significantly increased the quality of the sound, and made the music I've listened to all the more enjoyable. The only down side for me is regularly cleaning them. and honestly, thats hardly a downside for me.
