Hi, I've been using the stock earphones for a while, and I'm deciding to buy a pair of earphones. I chose the Ex51's because of their popularity here in the lounge, so I'm willing to go with your opinions. Since they are in-ear, I expect them to be sound isolating, and that they will have better bass than the stock earphones. The first question is: Can anyone offer any reasons why NOT to buy it? If not, can you suggest better earphones in around that price category? (about <$40 Canadian). The second question is: Can anyone tell me somewhere you can buy the Ex51's for a pretty cheap price in Hong Kong? Thanks

Well, first of all Sony mdr-ex51 is not a true canal-phone. I say they are still belong to earbud catalog, but they are small enough so you can put into your ears. Therefore, in terms of isolation, they does get rid of the noise, but no where close to shure or etymotics.

Therefore, if isolation is really important to you, I suggest you get shure e2c.

Also, if you really want the sound quality and under $40 canadian, I say Koss ksc75 has way better sound than this sony.

I agree with solvexyz. The sony's don't really go inside the ear but just sit outside. The e2c's go right in the ear, making it the better phone.

Well, I'm under a budget, so about $40 is the most I'm willing to spend on earphones. About the Koss, are they "true" canal phones or are they kindof like the Ex51's and sit on the outside? As well, do they have good sound isolation?

I believe you talking about Koss plug. That thing won't fit on 80% of people's ear, so it sounds really bad on most people. I hear a lot of them saying they sound worse than iPod stock earphone. However, if you can get good seal on this, then it is a different story. I seen someone on the ebay modify it by replacing the tip with a etymotics tri-flange. Not sure how much improvement, but my point is that it is not easy to get good fit with this koss plug.

By the way, I am recommanding Koss ksc75, and that is not a canalphone nor a in-ear earphone. It is a clip-on headphone.

My recommandation is this if you care about sound, and does not care about isolation get Koss ksc75.

If you want a decent sound and some isolation, sony ex51sl is still your best bet.

Okay, thanks for the info, I've decided to get the Ex51's, but can anyone answer one of my original questions of where I would be able to purchase a pair of these earphones for a low price in Hong Kong? (preferably from a store that offers refunds or a way to return them)
