This is my first post so please be gentle! Also, I’m sure some of you ety lovers out there are going to cringe at this post.

I bought an Aquapac and some earphones about 3 months ago. I wanted to mainly use the kit for windsurfing but also in the pool etc on holiday. The earphones I bought were recommended by the company selling the Aquapac. The Aquapac is great but the phones are, to be honest, pretty awful – basically a combination of a cheap headset with lots of silicon – and not very well done at that. The sound is bad, which I could nearly tolerate during windsurfing or swimming, but they were uncomfortable and wouldn’t stay in my ears. You need lugs the size of the hulk to hold them in place!

I’ve just come back from a windsurfing holiday and whilst there, due to the above frustration, I tried my 12 month old ER6i’s with the Aquapac - first in the pool and then windsurfing. To my delight they worked perfectly – in fact, I can honestly say that were absolutely brilliant. I use the 3 flange earpieces which must keep a really tight waterproof seal.

I have to admit that the first time it took some courage and only after a few minutes in the water I dried and checked them out. After a weeks windsurfing and pool swimming I have had no problems at all – each time flushing them through with clean water.

A word of caution though, as they are in-ear types, I can’t say if you may be more susceptible to ear infections etc and so would recommend keeping the earpieces clean before and after the water.

Anyway, I hope that my experience may be of benefit. I know that a number of members have been searching for phones for the water. I’m also obviously not yet sure about the long term degradation of the ety’s using them in this way but to date they haven’t shown any visual effects and sound just as good as ever.

Well, I have to say that you've got guts to put your $150+ headphones at risk like that. Cool post.

I wonder if 'salt water corrosion' is covered under Shure's unconditional 2-year warranty?

man, you're brave.
I don't even like to take the chance of wearing my Ety's after I come straight out of a shower. I wait an hour to ensure my ears are dry.

Whoa... huuuuuge risk putting such expensive phones in the water like that. Seems your lucky they're fine.

Probably a bit of a longshot that the thread starter is still around, however, if you are, could you please give an update as to how your Ety's have been holding up using them underwater. Anyone else that has tried this, please chip in.

Hi Cakbar -

I've had a few more swims since the post and there're still as good as ever!

This, IMO, is a really stupid thing to do. The electronics eventually would corrode if the case wasn't perfectly waterproofed.
