Ok well i spend some amount of time looking around these forums and didn't quite come up with an answer i was looking for. given my search skills aren't great, forgive me:(
ok basically i have a few limits and just want headphones that fit these the best.
1. approx 100 dollars or less
2. must be bassy (sp). i like bass
3. very preferably closed.
4. looking for headphones, not earbuds or canal phones or whatever.
initially i was looking at the 280s but it seems like its lacking in the bass department and there were some pretty mixed opinions. if yall could help out that would be great.

I highly recommend the Sennheiser HD212 Pro's. They are closed DJ type headphones, so there is definitely no lack of bass there. I know a lot of people have been saying that they overpower everything else, but they really don't. Everything sounds awesome, with an emphasis on the bass. I listen to alot of techno/trance/Primus, and these perform exquisitely. They are about 50-60 retail, but I'm sure you can find cheaper prices if you look hard enough. These cans bump like no other for the price.
P.S., If at first they don't sound as defined as you like, give them a chance to burn in. I know it's a "controversial topic", but burning these headphones in really does make a difference as it gives them a chance to loosen up and really punch out the bass.

Yes, the iPod is powerful enough to drive the HD212 Pro's, so you don't need an amp. You could always use an amp to get more power/more bass if you wanted to, though.

Yeah I was lookin at the 280's before I got the 212 Pro's, and the lack of bass that was mentioned in some of the reviews made me switch to the 212's, which by the way are mentioned to have strong bass in every review I've ever read for them.

From what I've read, they are closed type headphones but feel like they are open, which may mean they are more comfortable. The sound reproduction is equal on all levels, so there is no emphasis on bass. They are supposed to come with extremely sensitive electronics, which means that they can pick up even slight details in music, but also means that the bass isn't too strong unless you use bass booster.
