So I recently purchased a pair of Shure E3c, and let me just say that they are outstanding compared to the stock or any other ear buds I have ever listened to. So there I was sitting on the beach enjoying the rays and relaxing to the sounds on my iPod. The good thing about the Shures is that you can put them in and close off the outside world and really listen to your music. With that being said, I was sitting on the beach just staring off into the distance when I noticed that my girlfriend was trying to tell me something, so as I go to take out one of the buds to hear what she was talking to me about I noticed that something was wrong. Oh Crap.... So as I stared at the one ear bud with the missing tip I relalized that the tip was burried deep w/in my ear canal. So as I sat there trying to figure out the best way to get this peice of plastic out of my ear, my girlfiend was having a good old laugh at my expence. The harder I tried to get it, the deeper it got unitl I just gave up. So the next logical step was to get some tweezers, which I usualy don't carry on my person. So I gave my dad a ring and ask if he would drive the 3 miles and bring me some tweezers to get the ear bud out of my ear. So needless to say he was there in 15 min w/ the tweezers and he gently pulled the ear bud tip right out of my ear. Later on that night at the 4th of July BBQ all my family and friends had a good laugh, while I tried to explain how my iPod ear buds got logged into my ear. So to sum up the story if you own a pair of Shure E3c you are in for a treat if you enjoy crisp sound and the isolation they bring when in your ear, however be careful when you take them out because you may be somewhere and not have tweezers. :D

if it does go in too deep, you can always get it surgically removed

Hahaha, that was a great story. I can relate, because the same thing has happened to me with not only my MDR-EX71SL's, but also with my friend's Etymotic 6i's and Koss Plug's. Painful and awkward experiences, but it is hilarious to look back on them.

The tip I was using was the small soft grey tip. Well anyway the same thing happened today as I was leaving the the gym. I was in the locker room getting ready to leave and I went to take the ear phones out of my ear, and what do you know, the damn thing was stuck in my right ear again. I think it is time to change up the tips, what do you guys think? Once it was funny, a 2nd time it tends to get old real quick. Its not like I am pulling on them hard, I grab them by the the plastic peice near the ear and not the wires and just pull them out. 97% of the time they come out fine, its just that 3% that ####es me off.

wow, i thought i was the only one... i use the same tips as you do(the small grey sleeves) and this exact same thing has happened to me about 5 times now... its really starting to #### me off.. the first time it happened it scared the sh*t out of me. now i just try to keep tweezers on or near me :) from what i can tell its the tip that starts to lose its stiffness.. i think i might switch to the foamies.

nothingman, the same thing has happened about 4 times now, each time it gets stuck it always happens at a time that is not very convienent for me. I do agree that the soft grey tips do lose thier stiffness and when they get sweaty they tend to slide off of the ear bud. So recently I switched to the small clear earbud which seems to stay on better being that they are not soft like the grey ones. So far they managed to stay on, however they do irritate alittle. On a side note I too started to carry a pair of tweezers as a precaution. Good times.....

soo, recently i've switched tips to the foamies and have had no problems. they're more comfortable, provide more isolation and dont pop off in my ear.. but, they dont last very long. i got maybe two weeks out of one pair before they began to lose their "foamy" feeling. They also got pretty dirty...

I then switched again to the medium sized grey soft tips. Although they are less comfortable for me(my ears are small i guess) i do get a good seal with them and as of yet i haven't had an instance where they've come off in my ear.

I tried those small clear ones like you did but, man, so painful...

Just thought i would let you know my experiences :)

i had the same problem with the small and medium gray tips this summer. Once it got hot, they became very slippery and lost their firmness. I recently just got a pair of Comply Canal Tips (a foamie tip, but bigger than the yellow ones that comes with the E3cs) and haven't had the problem since. Best part is that they offer better isolation, bass, and detail along with being more comfortable in my ears. I actually felt like I got a new set of buds after getting them. For $12 for a set of 3 pairs, I highly recommend them.
