How did the screen get broken?

Is it possible to get it changed under the Apple warrenty, however that is fraud and illegal.

Depends on the type of person you are on what action you take...

I don't see why you even need to ask the question you're asking.

Aren't you capable enough of deciding whether or not to get your iPod repaired, or to just sell it and buy a new one?

The warranty only covers defects, not abuse. The broken screen is not a defect.

thanks for your reply, i was lookin on what your ideas were as they maybe better right?

do u think they will repair it? or will they just charge me for a a refurbished one?

Most likely you'll get charged for a refurb. I believe the charge is a flat $249.

If you sell it, don't expect to get more than $100 for it, if that.

I doubt it, you can buy new ones for $250

Doubt all you want. From the service/support FAQ on Apple's website:

If you own an iPod, iPod photo, or U2 iPod and it requires service for any other issue, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $249, plus $6.95 shipping. iPod mini customers can receive out of warranty service for $199, plus $6.95 shipping and handling.
Obviously, it doesn't matter if you can buy new ones for $250.

just call them and tell them what happend- there isnt much getting a good excuse for a broken screen anyway. Just sound like its really stressing you out, im sure they will give you some sort of deal- maybe like a $50 for a screen repair (in reality they then just return you a refurb)

yeah i guess i will jsut tell them the story and see what they think bout it.

i also just bought the apple ipod care 2 days ago which is the most stressful factor.

i guess i will beg them and see if they can replace it with the battery excuse if they person is nice.

if you guys can think of legtic reasons for it then please tell me.

keep on coming with the reply's, they may get me ideas.

btw, does anyone know someone in this world which did get their ipod replaced when the screen broke?

thanks in advance for reply's

regards

jason

oh thanks for the reply honeybee but i dont think i can afford the repair, or it is a rip off.

there is logic to it as i have extended warenty and i can take it back and get a new one after the screen is replaced.

please could you guys chat bout my previous post.

man karma bit my wallet hard.

Asking this question is pretty stupid man. Either you got the warranty or not. Go buy a new colored screen ipod.

I doubt you will have it replaced for free. Warranty covers manufacturer defects, not breakage due to use (or abuse) ...

What you can do, is search eBay for a replacement screen and install it yourself. From what I searched, there seem to be quite a few around.

i know but the cost of replacing the screen is half or almost 1/2 of the cost of the new ipod. the machine itself is qutie worn as well.

the only logical reason to do so is so that i can bring it to applecare with the screen intact so they will replace it for me

well today i went to apple repair center, after talkin for like 1 min they shut me down.

i went to "wanchai" in HK and went to see what ipods there were and saw a good 40GB 4th gen non-color one for 1480HKD (190.414 USD) sounded good but need to see if they take my POS in as well. when they argeed to some mother ###### had already bought it so i was stuck.

lucky they had a 20G 4th gen one as well and it was alo selling for 1480HKD (190.414 USD) but was in much better condition, also finding out the manufacutre date was also very recent so i can scam em' as they wouldnt fix my broken ipod.
In the end he gave it to me for $1250 (160.811 USD) but then i said i had no money and he only gave me the machine so he gave it to me for $1200(154.371 USD) with my broken ipod

after that i will add $440HKD (56.6028 USD) and scam em' for another year straight.

i'm coming for u apple u mother ######s!

then i think i rip'd off the guy that bought my broken ipod as the HD crashed and the screen is smashed. then again he thought my ipod was still under warrenty, stupid #######, and was gonna find a broken i pod he brought in and replace the screen and scam someone by selling it.

overall i spent a extra $100 ($12.8668 USD) than i should have at the apple shop to get a new working ipod.

moreover, it was better than sending it to the US and getting the screen replaced and finding out that the HD has also crashed, i recon that process would have taken over 1 month and costed more because of hefty shipping charges.

Jason

lesson is that if your gonna break a ipod dont do a full arm swing attack on to a cupboard, but do the same with the screen wrap'd in bubble rap or some kinda impact absorbtion material. also apple's batteries last 18months and

well that last post of yours made no sense, and further it's probably not wise to discuss "scamming" on a public forum. What you are discussing is illegal in the United States (where Apple is headquartered). Intentionally breaking an iPod to attempt to get a new one under the warranty is fraud. I believe that point has already been made.

Let's not discuss...unsavory...activities on this board. There are younger users here who may not understand that what you're doing is wrong.

ETA: I know I'm not a moderator, but I just don't feel like discussing an attempt at fraud is really an appropriate use for a forum that is otherwise great.

Hey...From what I have read (I recently dropped mine and shattered the LCD) there is no way that apple will do anything about your screen. I'm assuming that the actual plastic bit is fine and its the LCD screen underneath that is shattered) Now, as I also have no money, don't really feel comfortable lying about it (not to mention mine is over a year old anyway) and have an addiction to my ipod, I went looking for other solutions. You can get it fixed for as cheaply as about $90 online, but that is still pretty steep. If you feel competent or have a friend, or if you figure you have nothing left to lose you can try buying a screen on ebay (I managed to get one for about $60 but if i had been more patient with bidding I probably could have gotten it far more cheaply) and change it yourself. There are tons of websites telling you how to do this...but as a person in the middle of trying to do it, let me just say it isn't easy.
