I've been using my iPod with my notebook with Windows XP Pro for about a year. There was never a problem. Adding music, deleting, editing etc. I wanted to start using it with my stationary PC with Windows XP Home ed SP2 (as I've sold my notebook). I've installed iTunes and the latest drivers. First of all my computer could not see connected iPod. There was some kind of question like: "would you like to initiate your iPod?". I went for it but lost all my music. For then on my iPod appeared in iTunes and in OS. Updater said that I was using old software version (2.2) so I've upgraded it. I started downloading the music back to the device (fortunately I had it all stored on CD-Rs). Unpleasant suprise. After downloading about 7GB (my iPod is 40GB one) it stucked and froze. Reseting helped for a while but after reaching about 13GB it stucked again. Any further music transfer was unsuccessful. Reseting iPod, unplugging it and plugging it back again - nothing helped. I went back to software version 2.2 but this did not help either. I've restored all the settings and was trying to download the music from the beginning. The same pattern appeared. After reaching 13GB it would not accept any more data nor music. Did any of you experienced something similar? Do you have any idea what could possibly be the reason for what I'm experiencing? Please help.
PS I got an advice from someone at Apple Discussions to buy myself a fire-wire card from Adaptec - it is not available in this part of Europe! Apart from that I've already paid for USB cable and it says "for Mac and PC" right on the box of the iPod itself so I guess I should be able to work with PC as Apple promises without spending extra money for additional cards. For every 500 Euros they charge for iPod here they could buy themselves a PC back thre in Apple company and check whether their product really works with Windows... at least that's my opinion as I am really angry right now not being able to use my device.
