View Full Version : Photos disapearing. Strange
Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Has anyone else had problems with photos (not album artwork) disappearing from their iPods?
A friend recently bought a new iPod and I synched his empty iPod with my iTunes. I also gave him a few photos so he could try out the photo feature.
After some time he says he lost the photos. I checked his iPod and sure enough they were gone. He does not connect his iPod to any other computer but mine and he hasn't done so since he first bought it.
The strange thing is I lost my photos too just recently. I too originally loaded a few token photos just to check out the iPod's photo feature and haven't made changes to the photo collection since (this was 2 months ago). I used Adobe Photo Elements to transfer photos to the iPod.
Is there a way to delete photos (accidentally or otherwise) from the iPod itself without plugging it into the computer?
I have a 30GB photo, iTunes 4.7, Photoshop Elements 3.0.
Thanks for any information.

you can lose all pictures stored on your ipod if you reset it....e.g. push the centre button simultaneuosly with the menu button.

if he took the ipod back to his house an pluged in the iPod and his photoshop elements doesnt have that album (exact same as your computers) then the album is automatically deleted off the iPod. Its a feature built into iTunes, not really sure why its there but it just is.

Hi.
I had a strange problem with my new iPod 60GB. I uploaded all my pictures to it then went out of the country on a trip. I used the iPod on the train for 12 hours straight, until the battery went into the red. Later that night I was able to see my pictures. But I charged it overnight, and in the morning I found my pictures were gone. I'm certain I didn't reset it, so I'm not sure if there's any other way pictures can get deleted without hooking up to iTunes. Is this a known problem with iPods, or maybe there's something wrong with mine?
Thanks.
halady, now that you mention it, I do recall having discharged my iPod at least once. I have never (consciously) reset it.
I guess fully discharging an iPod is the same thing as a reset?

Well all I can add to this is..if you ever turn your Ipod on and you see the apple sign come up then the Ipod has reset itself and that might have caused the pictures to disappear. If you leave your Ipod off for more than 48 hours at a time it resets itself automatically. But I wouldn't think that would cause the pictures to disappear, but I just recently traded up from a 4G 20gb to a 30gb Photo and haven't played with that feature much yet.
Ok. Now I know what happened. After reading Razor's post I put some photos into the iPod and left it on the shelf for a couple of days. Sure enough, when I turned the iPod on I got the Apple logo as expected - then voila! No more photos...
I find it hard to believe that this is by design?!?
I don't really use the photo feature of the iPod too much but this is sure to be a major inconvenience for those that do. I'm sure a good number of people leave their iPods off for a couple of days or more.

The first time I loaded my iphoto, all my pictures went on, but when I re-connected, they all where gone . Trying to put back on, I get message that I need iphoto 4.7 or later. I guess it was a tease to show me 1350 pictures then take them away. Whatever...
Some album art (pictures that were also in iphoto) disappeared when I could see photos. After the photos went away the album pictures came back. OK...

I have wondered about this same issue. posted another message but can't find the thread, noone answered (?). Anyways, it also happened to me after i had left the ipod off for a while. strange thing is that the photos reappear after a while. right now it's totally unpredictable: sometimes they are there, sometimes they're not. what's going on.
also, why does the ipod 'reset' itself after 48 hours? what does that mean?
cvanberg,
The same thing happens to me. I notice that the photos will come back... sometimes 2, 3 or more resets (due to inactivity) later. It is not consistent.
It is rather odd. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it. Since I don't really use the photo feature that much it's no big deal. However, it is irritating not having the photos there on the rare occassion I want to show them to someone.

exactly. it's a bit of a relief to know that it's happening to others, though. i was worried that my ipod is malfunctioning. but i'm still totally irritated because it makes me wonder what else might suddenly go wrong.
Other than the disappearing photos I've encountered no other problems in the 5 months I've had my 30gbphoto (knock, knock).
A friend's 60gb photo also has the disappearing photo problem but no other issues after about 4 months.
Good luck..
