Hey, i have a 97 mercury sable. It has a cigarette adapter that is in a a place that is pretty out of the way which makes my install look a lot nicer considering i dont have a center console. I'm using a Sik Imp to charge my ipod. The only problem is, since it's kind of hidden, it's also a pain in the butt to plug and unplug it whenever i need it. It does drain the car battery when left in, so i was wondering if anyone had any tips to how i could install an on/off switch for it so i can just leave it plugged in all the time. I am just nervous to go cutting wires and stuff and don't know if i need to buy anything besides a push pull that i would install into my face plate that my headunit is in. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

don't worry about it. It won't drain the battery enough to notice unless you leave your car parked for like two months (probally more)
Just leave it plugged in!

If you are dying to stop any drain on your battery , or want to verify that its not your Ipod. the cleanest solution would be to get behind the dash and cut the wire connected to center contact. then strip back wire coating and splice in switch. make sure the switch can handle at least 10 amps. a typical fog light switch will work, and you can even get a pretty one to accent your install. , otherwise its an ugly battle with your cord , unless you are really good with shrink wrap.

If I had to go such length, may as well wire a brand new ciruit from the accessory rail (keys out, no power), then there won't be any switch to worry about. It only charges when key in ACC/ON positions.

Or, power and ground the jack from the same source as your car's head unit.
