Can't connect to itunes

I try to connect to my PC, but it says I have to format my ipod for windows, but it is. Windows recognizes my ipod, but Itunes does not. Also, when I try to disconnect my ipod, it says "cannot disconnect ipod from computer. Try another time."

Reset the iPod.

I have tried doing that but my PC still says my ipod is unreadable and is not recognized.
