I noticed that lots of people talk about where their car attenae is located in regards to how well a particular FM transmitter works.
If I use the transmitter to transmit to a stereo inside that is not picking up a particular station, will I then be able to use that station for my ipod?
(At work, the stereos often are in rooms shielded w/lead so nothing comes in and I'm currently having to always burn CDs to play on them.)

Yes.
The FM transmitter acts as a mini wireless transmitter so even if the stereo is shielded from signals coming from outside the room, the radio should be able to pick up the signal from the FM transmitter inside the room.

Well i have found the location of the antenna on a car does make a difference. The itrip worked great in my vitaria, which has the antenna on the front, but give a lot of static in my mazda3 which has the antenna on the back of the roof.

Any thoughts on a good FM transmitter for both the car and at work on the stereos? I looked today--no line in jack unlike my stereo at home.

I use and iTrip which just sits ontop of the iPod. It uses th iPod battery for power, so you might then need to hook the iPod up to a charging supply, which could be a PC or mains.
If you have access to mains and just want to play your iPod why not forget the FM transmitter route and purchase a set of speaker to hook the iPod up to.
