my ipod was frozen giving me trouble, everytime i selected a song it wouldn't play. i could hear my ipod trying to make it work, but the playcount remained a 0 seconds. I plugged my ipod into my computer, turned my computer on, and my heart sank, my friggin computer crashed, completely deleted everything. mysteriously, my ipod works fine, plays all the tracks and the hardrive functions.

after reinstalling all the software on my computer, i'm left with the dilemna of deleting everything on my ipod and spending days compiling all the music i have, (7 gigs),

or using a program to backup everything on my ipod onto my computer. i've used 2 programs, ipod2pc and copypod. i think they were both trial versions, but for some reason after backing up 10 songs on one program and about 90 songs on the other, both friggin programs froze completely, i can't get a damn program to effectively back up my ipod.

and I don't want to pay any money, so what's the best free program to back up my ipod?

sorry for the long message and anyone who read the whole thing

sharepod is what i use, you load it directly onto the iPod and it allows you to transfer from iPod to Computer and vice versa.

btw, this is not the appropriate forum for this post, it should be under Problems and Solutions : *Your iPod Type* please try to post in the appropriate forum next time, you will get more responses and the moderators have to move them if you don't.

last question, i downloaded that program, tried to run it, and it said sharepod couldn't find a file, mscomctl.ocx needed to run sharepod.

it led me to place to download it, i did, first i saved it to the sharepod folder on my ipod, then i tried saving it to my computer hardrive. no matter where i save it, i can't make sharepod work, any suggestion?

wait, after using the program, it too was able to copy 20 songs, and then all of a sudden it couldn't, i could hear my ipod's hardrive churning, it makes 6 put puts and then stops, 6 more puts, stops, and keeps doing that, like it can't access the hard drive, then the program sharepod froze and wouldn't respond, just like the other programs. is my ipod hard drive screwed up?

that's really odd... sharepod works fine for me.

maybe you could try copying the files in smaller numbers. did you try to copy your entire library of songs at once? if so, try only 100 at a time. i'm not sure what else to tell you.

Why don't you go into the iPod HD and take the music folder off of the iPod and place it on your desktop. Use the 'simple guide' link in my sig for the link to remove songs from iPod without software.
