I don't know if it's a Western thing, I guess it's just a matter of preference. I personally don't like wearing shoes in the house (although i do have ceramic floors) because they're usually dirty, or the ones that aren't dirty aren't exactly shoes that I'll wear around the house....I know people that wear shoes in their house, but I never do and I just found it weird..

Lacoste have been associated with the yob scene in this country. It's amazing how brands can change and become almost unfashionable overnight. I'm wearing GAP, which was probably made in Sri Lanka somewhere.

It's just my observation from my travels and a generalization at that. I just notice that the dress code and food tend to be much more exciting in warm, sunny regions which are usually in the south of most countries. Examples: L.A., Miami, Brazil, Italy and France (especially the southern regions) opposed to Britian or Germany, Fiji,Greece, Turkey, Thailand, India, The Middle East, all regions with very "exciting" dress and food.. The U.S. isn't without it's "bland" regions either, take the midwest (Utah specificly) as an example.

Utah is not in the midwest for a start, and is nowhere near as bland as you might think. Religiously, of course i'ts very homogeneous, but that doesn't mean that the food is bland. Many areas such as Park City and the other mountain areas are renowned for their restaurants and night life.

Oh, and British food may have been been bland in the past, but with all of the different cultures influencing modern cuisine in Britain, the food is now quite varied and flavourful.
