I recently purchased the iTrip and it is the biggest piece of crap ever.. static-ey, AM quality sound, limited volume capabilities, annoying to tune, extremely temperamental.
my question is does anyone know any higher quality FM transmitters that will sound like more of a direct connection? im not really worried so much about the price (although a relatively inexpensive solution would be ideal) as much as I am about the sound quality and ease of use.
unfortunately mounting and connecting to the car stereo is not really an option since the car is my dad's but he is more or less giving it to me to drive since he got a new one and probly wouldn't appreciate if i was to install anything in what is essentially his car. so i need the next best thing. any suggestions??
is there such a product that doesn't involve installation but is still a direct connection.. say if it was to transmit somehow via the cigarette lighter or something which is the only other plug i can think of?
thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

I am very happy with the RoadTrip+ , it charges the iPod and broadcasts to FM 87.9. Very good quality sound, plug it in and tune your FM to 87.9 and you're in business.

I use the icarplay fm transmitter. I find it's great. Very rarely do i hear any static (when i does happen its usually only during the silence between songs). Plus it gives u a choice of 6 stations, instead of only 87.9

In the manual that comes with it, it states it puts out the strongest single allowd by the FCC.

Like you i bought the itrip, it worked good as long as your antenna is on the front of the car. But my antenna is on the back of my roof, so the itrip was not strong enough.

The icarplay charges my ipod along with transmits the audio, and glows red which matched the red lighting in my dash.
